Mister Snuffleupagus

All children of the 80s know who Mr. Snuffleupagus (snuff-ul-up-uh-gus) is. He was Big Bird's friend who would always disappear when other people were present. Sesame Street didn't unveil Mr. Snuffleupagus to the other Sesame Street characters til late in the children's TV show series. For years, the show centered this storyline to be: Is Mr. Snuffleupagus real or imaginary? Sara and Brian's family whom I photographed last weekend reminded me of Snuffy! Let me explain...

Everything these young boys and their parents did embodied grace, warmth, and tenderness from how they spoke to one another to how they wrapped their arms around each other, even when they weren't being photographed. They act like this normally! I was, and have always been, in awe of them. This kind of family isn't...imaginary?

Snuffy is real.
