In The Clouds

Every morning last week, fog greeted the coast.
The fog was so thick that it was hard to see. Sometimes the fog had a tinge of color to it, be it a light bluish grey, a deeper charcoal, an ashy cinnamon. A few days it arrived with mist, or worse, rain. (For Californians, "rain" is when there is wet stuff that comes down from the sky!)
Knowing my lifestyle shoot was within the week, I was concerned and carefully followed the weather patterns and stayed in touch with my clients. Now I have a different opinion that I'd like to share. 🙂

Here are my deep thoughts.... fog is a metaphor of life!
It started with remembering how shooting in fog gives me the dreeeaaamiest images. It's like photographing in the clouds!
The parts that remind me of life is: fog may seem like a negative at first (ie, it makes seeing a little hazy), but you can still see the big things. In life, it can be good to give our lives a pause so we can gain clarity of what is most important by blurring out the noise.

Another parallel is: fog always passes. Fog rolls in, and then rolls out -- which is just what happened during this shoot, so Julie and Chris started on the beach in fog and ended with full sunshine in a hillside of birch trees.
Just like in life, don't worry about the negatives because they'll pass with time.
